At the heart of Black Eden, Lake Idlewild offered generations of residents and visitors space to swim, boat, gather and relax. Along its shoreline grew cottages, businesses and social institutions that helped make Idlewild nationally known as a place where African Americans could own property and enjoy leisure during an era of widespread segregation.
