Restaurants, taverns and tea rooms were essential to everyday life in Black Eden. This site began as the Rose’s Tea Room in the early 1930’s and later became Rosanna’s Tavern, the Red Rooster and, most recently, Peyton’s Place. Its changing names tell a century-long story of Black-owned hospitality, food, music and neighborhood gathering in Idlewild.
