This is a proposed heritage trail preserving the stories of the people, places, businesses, and landmarks that shaped Idlewild. The Black Footwear Forum brings it to Detroit as an example of what's to come; the real trail will be in Idlewild and will grow well beyond the 20 stops.

This site reflects the everyday institutions that sustained Idlewild beyond its famous clubs and hotels. Education, local government and access to books and information were essential parts of community life, making this area an important reminder that Black Eden was not simply a vacation destination — it was a living community.
